THE LAST HIPPY BAND - HISTORY

“The Last Hippy Band” performed it’s first paying gig in March, 1979 but is actually 24 years old this year. Throughout the Mid-West they have made their mark on quite diverse audiences; selling out the Cleveland Agora Ballroom (7,500 people), the Chillicothe Ohio Easy Rider Rodeo (20,000 people) and the Majestic Theater in Detroit with Tommy Chong (3,500). We have toured with “The Purple Haze Experience”, and opened tour stops with Bad Finger, Dr. Hook, The Inn, New Riders of the Purple Sage, Mitch Rider, Rare Earth and Larry McCray. On stage they have jammed with Bonnie Raite, Tommy Chong (Cheech and Chong), and Big Bird (Rare Earth). Neil Young once told his roadies that if he were to join another band, “The Last Hippy Band” would be it.

Voted number one Lansing Michigan rock band in a WILS101 radio rock poll in 1983, they received a number three ranking in The Lansing State Journal “Best of the Best” reader’s poll in 1998. In ABATE’s annual battle of the bands, they pulled down one, two respectively in 1985-1986. “The Last Hippy Band” has performed at hundreds of rallies, benefits and charities for such groups as homeless organizations, cancer victims, town revivals, environmental groups and political gatherings…all free! As a “Hippy” band we have gigged hundreds of hippie rallies…also for free, with as many as up to 10,000 screaming hippies in attendance. We have performed at thousands of nightclubs, private parties and weddings. We have been seen on most Michigan, Wisconsin and Ohio TV news’ reports and have been reported and interviewed on CNN, CBS and Detroit’s WKBD.  We have performed live on radio many times and were frequent guests on “Jazz McKay” and “Lansing Underground” TV shows. We are nationally released on the “Weedstock” compilation CD and now have our own CD of tried and true originals.

If you want a professional band with the experience and skill to pull off your party or event, “The Last Hippy Band” is the band for you. Our sound and psychedelic lighting gear can be customized to fit any size room from a small nightclub to a concert hall. The price is negotiable and fair to all. These hippies love to play their music and can’t stay too busy. This four piece band (keyboards, bass, drums and guitar) wants to play for you.
